200o Spectacular Veiws
Three sections are available from what is probably the only remaining elevated site in the Eastern Bay of Plenty giving sweeping 200 degree views from Whale Island and out across the Edgecumbe Plains to Mt Tarawera. Whakatane is the hub of the Eastern Bay of Plenty and doorway to the East Coast.
The forestry towns of Kawerau and Edgecumbe are less than half an hour away. Rotorua and Tauranga are within a 100 kilometres and Hamilton approximately two hours away. Auckland is less than four hours drive. This puts Whakatane within relatively easy reach of 40% of New Zealand's population.
Whakatane township numbers around 16,800, and some 33,400 in the surrounding district. It has undergone something of a renaissance as more people have become aware of the real beauty and business potential of this rapidly growing area. After a major upgrade, the business district looks superb, and many National chain stores recognising the potential have now located in Whakatane. Theatre entertainment and a wide range of restaurant and cafe facilities have contributed to Whakatane s lifestyle values.
Tourism numbers peak in summer and have a positive effect on the economy of the town. White Island, New Zealand's only marine volcano also demands attention along with art, culture, natural history, recreation, & adventure sports, Whakatane is the major service and administration centre for the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
