Commercial Property Division

The Commercial division specialises predominently in retail developments from Taupo through to Auckland, mixing industrial and office opportunities. Tenants have included some of Australasia’s largest blue chip companies. A lot of our strength in this sector comes from our direct experience running retail businesses. The Fermah Group has more than 20 years experience operating retail businesses from fashion to music, hi-fi and video rental. We understand what makes a successful retail business and build that expertise into our property deveopments.

Residential Property Division

The Residential division specialises in medium sized subdivisions from 8 to 25 sections. Most subdivisions are fully completed house and land packages marketed not only to the Group's ever-growing client base but also to new clients. The Fermah Group owns the Modulock housing brand. Modulock have been housing Kiwi’s for over thirty years.

Our successful recent residential developments include:

  • Whakatane’s Totara Park. This innovative housing development is a 22-unit house and land development aimed at those requiring retirement housing with an independent lifestyle. Our approach has always been to see things from others' point of view, so with the older folks in mind the design included lower bench heights (some tend to stoop as they grow older), lever handles on all doors (easier use in cases of arthritis), flat floor showers (reducing the potential for trip-ups), grab handles, wider door ways, wider hallways (for ease of wheelchair operation) etc. Externally, the neighbourhood is enhanced by bollard street lighting, cobblestone paths, terracotta coloured curbing and security fencing. These principles of thought are applied to every subdivision project.
  • Auckland's Sabulite Rd, Kelston is a sixteen lot subdivision. Sixteen investor focussed brick and tile houses were built and leased to Housing New Zealand for ten years. Investors purchased the individual houses and have enjoyed a "no worries" investment with strong capital growth. In Auckland, The Group have used award-winning Mitchell Homes as house builders. Other recently completed property development projects can be found in: Whakatane, Ohope Beach, Tauranga, Papamoa, Welcome Bay and Auckland.

Investor focussed, the Group have been able to provide not just high quality housing but secure tenanted investments.

How it all started

The Fermah Group was established in Whakatane in 1978 and is owned by two entrepreneurial brothers Des and Dave Fermah. Starting in business ages 17 and 19 years, by their mid twenties Des & Dave had half a dozen retail stores, more than half a dozen commercial properties and a scattering of residential properties across the central North Island.Fermah Group head office

Des and Dave bought their first properties at 20 years of age and it’s here that the interest in property was born. Since then, the strong growth of The Fermah Group of Companies has seen The Group expand nationwide with interests in retail, commercial and residential property development, finance, manufacturing and software development.
